You might have heard of the most expensive coffee in the world- KOPI LUWAK (Weasel coffee, motit coffee, civet coffee) many people might fancy it but very little people know that it’s the excrement an animal, a tree cat (Asian Palm Civet) found in Sumatra coffee plantation region. So how did some animals SHIT became the most expensive coffee in the world?
According to the native people, these tree cat prowl the coffee plantation and they ate up the ripen coffee beans. These cats wouldn't touch the unripe beans but eat up all the ripest coffee beans, obviously these ripen coffee beans are most valuable.Frustrated with this coffee farmers started collecting the beans from the excrement of the tree cats when they found out the coffee beans were not digested by the tree cats.Surprisingly these undigested beans seemed to have great taste due to reaction with different digestive enzymes. These undigested coffee beans slowly became popular as KOPI LUWAK and is sold at the rate of $400-$600 per pound. Of course as the most expensive coffee in the world. now dont you think we live in a weird world....... :D
